Dubrovnik in 2019
Birds flying high…sun in the sky…breeze drifting on by…this you can expect on most days here in Dubrovnik. 2019 shouldn’t be different in that matter. Nevertheless, a new year means a new season. What does that mean exactly?
Oxford’s dictionary defines the term „new“ as „different from a recent previous one“. Usually the new is fundamentally influenced by the recent previous. So instead of just looking ahead, let’s also take a look back on 2018 to see what happened and if this might have an impact in 2019. Crystal ball show me what you got:
- Dubrovnik, a popular destination
2018
Dubrovnik was positively mentioned by making nearly every travelers bucket list compiled by newspapers, travel magazines or bloggers. This and other articles adorned with beautiful pictures of the Old Town and surroundings lead to increasing numbers compared to recent years.
2019
Dubrovnik will again make several bucket lists in 2019 and will be featured in many articles describing its beauty, adorned with some lovely photos. Which leads to people coming from all over the world, enjoying a wonderful time and then spreading the message that Dubrovnik should be on everyones bucket list in 2019.
- Dubrovnik & cruise ship tourism
2018
Besides Venice and Barcelona, Dubrovnik was also mentioned in the discussion about cruise ship tourism flooding cities and destroying quality destinations. In recent years the city experienced days when the Old Town was overcrowded and traffic a chaos. 2017 were less cruise ships arriving in Dubrovnik than in previous years. Nevertheless, again on some days, for a few hours, the town was packed.
2019
Dubrovnik already made some changes in 2018 reducing the numbers and will continue to do so in 2019. According to Dubrovnik authorities different measures were and will be implemented to maintain and to increase the quality of tourism in the city. Anyway, also this year there will be days where you better avoid the Old Town for a few hours. One of our upcoming blog posts will deal with this issue showing you options how to enjoy Dubrovnik in anyway.
- Dubrovnik on screen
2018
Since 2011 Dubrovnik is a main filming location for HBO’s „Game of Thrones“. The popular TV series attracts people all over the world and for some it is a reason for their visit. The last season was broadcasted in 2017, again including scenes filmed in Dubrovnik. 2018 was a draught for fans of the show, but earlier that year the production was in Dubrovnik to shoot scenes for the final season.
November 2018, a remake of "Robin Hood" hit the theaters. Starring Taryn Egerton and Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx telling the story of Nottingham’s legend. A big part of that movie was shot in Dubrovnik as yu can recognize easily when you watch the movie. Interesting to see if any maen in tights will be fooding the city in the near future.
2019
Winter in Dubrovnik will be gone and season 8 is coming. For dedicated fans of "Game of Thrones" we have a new tour special: the "Game of Thrones" Cosplay Tour! This will be a big year for any GoT fan. The big rumble begins April 14th.
- Dubrovnik’s weather
2018
Last summer was an average summer with temperatures around 25 degrees celsius. Lots of sunny days and low precipitation. July and August usually hotter with around 30 degrees celsius.
2019
Weather forecast predicts another summer with average temperatures of 25 degrees celsius for the season. Perfect for anything in Dubrovnik.
- Lottery numbers
2018
Look it up or leave it.
2019
Sorry, but it looks like the crystal ball needs to be charged. I should have known, the ones at IKEA are not for real. Anyway, my experience shows that in 2019 there will be again lots of bucket list travelers, some big cruise ship dockings, the „Game of Thrones“ fever spreading all over the city and maybe some men in tights.
But as long as I see birds flying high, sun in the sky and a breeze drifting on by, you know how I feel? Well, than „I’m feeeeheeeeling goooood!“.
